What are the main features of the eID?
|
The eID provides 3 main features :
- Data capture :
Data capture allows reading and extracting identity data electronically stored on the chip of the eID in order to feed any application. The security mechanisms of the eID card are built in such a way that at all times the information on the eID chip is identical to the National Register's information regarding the card holder. The eID card contains the correct, official address of the citizen and the correct spelling for official names and surnames of the card holder.
- Authentication :
The authentication feature allows to strongly guaranty the identity of the card owner, even remotely.
- Digital signature :
The non-repudiation digital certificate on the eID allows to digitally sign any electronic document, even remotely, with equivalent legal value as a hand-written signature.
