How can I check the status of an eID certificate?

The easiest way to retrieve the status of an eID certificate is to check its serial number via the website of the Belgian federal government. You can find the serial number of the certificate via the middleware (i.e. the software that allows the card reader to communicate with your computer) by taking the following steps: Certificates > Details > Details > Serial number.

Besides this online verification method, the certificate status can be verified by downloading a CRL (Certificate Revocation List), i.e. a "black list" of revoked certificates that can be retrieved here.
